QUICK QUESTIONS WITH Kevin Logue

Kevin Logue

Kevin Logue

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT IS YOUR CONNECTION TO COMICS?

I’m Kevin Logue, but better known as ‘Gio’, I’ve been drawing comics for about 6 years now, mostly
locally based anthologies and online publications.
WHAT COMIC ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
Im currently pencilling the monthly “Zombies Hi” and a 3 page short for “Sugar Glider Stories 2”.
WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF MAKING COMICS?
For me it’s all about the visual storytelling, I just love drawing and when you can make you drawing
tell a story, well, what mor e do you want.
WHAT’S THE WORST PART OF MAKING COMICS?
That I can’t do it all the time!
HOW DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER COMICS?
Not until I 18, a friend who loved comics, had written a script and knew I drew so give it to me to
have a crack at it. I started drawing then realised, it might be better if I start reading them. Being
surrounded by comic fans I was given the creme de the crème of comics as a crash course. I was
amazed with them. Been hooked since
WHO IS THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR WORK?
Influences. I don’t draw like them in anyway that would show it, but I love the draftmanship and page
layouts of J.H.Williams and the atmosphere expression of Declan Shalvey.
WHAT TOOLS OF THE TRADE DO YOU USE?
2H, HB and B. Only mechanical pencils I use these days, and I ink with a Pentel Japan brush pen,
and rotring technical pens. Ive started dabbling in using Manga Studio to do my inking and got some
good response, but not quite ready to declare it an official tool.
WHAT IS THE SINGLE WORK OF WHICH YOU ARE MOST PROUD?
Zombies Hi, the current project.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED?
‘Stop over working it.’
WHAT IS THE WORST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?
‘Dont get into comics.’
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CURRENT IRISH COMIC SCENE?
I’m pretty new to comics, and the actually scene that is out there is becoming more apparent to me.
It’s something I need to experience more before I can actually answer that one.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN IN IRISH COMIC IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
Hmmm,… being part of it.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN IN COMICS IN GENERAL IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
I don’t want them to go digital, this may seem strange but I like the smell of them. I hope that more
kids will get into them, maybe more things like what Classic Comics is doing, getting comics into the
education system.
WHAT WAS THE LAST COMIC THAT MADE AN IMPACT ON YOU?
Alan Moores run on swamp thing (only read it recently but mind pop)
FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE SOMEONE WHO
WANTS TO START MAKING THEIR OWN COMICS?
Just do it! Not like Nike, but if you’re a writer, then write all the time, if your an artist then draw all the
time.
ANY FINAL THOUGHTS?
