ART: Get your sketch on – Sketchbook Project

Taken from - http://hopesandfailures.wordpress.com/

There are some art projects simply too good to miss out on, and this one is no exception.  I’ve only heard of one such project before which was run by Kildare County Council, where a sketchbook was issued to you at your request, and upon filling it you returned it (within a deadline) and it became part of the libraries archived section.
This project I happened to stumble upon by accident (internet is wonderful for that) via a friends email, and the idea grabbed me a lot so I signed up.  Brooklyn Art Library archives your sketchbook and makes it available to the public.
So in the hope that this flash of inspiration may help others out there, here it is.  A simple idea, but profounding effective.  You sign up, you get a sketchbook, you fill it up with the help of a picked theme or random one and you send it back within the set time frame.  A small part of your creativity is then shared with other like minded people out there in the world somewhere and hopefully your thread of inspiration sparks something new in someone else.

It’s a limited edition sketchbook project with a limit of 5000.  There have been Irish artists such as Caroline Walsh (I’ve been trying to find the right Caroline online to get a link but no luck so far) featured in it as one of the favourites.  Go through the videos as they will really amaze you at how far some people will take the theme and elaborate on it.
If you know of anything similar closer to home do let us know!
