Hibernia Comics presents One-Eyed Jack and the Death of Valiant

One-Eyed Jack and the Death of Valiant
David McDonald, head (and possibly only) honcho of Hibernia Comics, who brought us such gems as Tales from the Emerald Isle, has set up his own Comicsy Shop, where one of the things he’s selling is One-Eyed Jack and the Death of Valiant.
It’s a fascinating historical investigation into John Wagner’s tenure as editor of the 1970s British weekly Valiant, and in particular his creation of One-Eyed Jack, a no-nonsense New York Cop who was in many ways the predecessor of Judge Dredd, and features interviews with Wagner, artist John Cooper, and art editor Jan Shepheard (one of British comics’ unsung heroines, who among many other things designed the logos for both One-Eyed Jack and Judge Dredd), as well as pieces by David on One-Eyed Jack and the context of his creation.
If, like me, you’re at all interested in the history of comics and the people behind them, and want to explore a bit beyond the well-trodden paths, this is absolutely¬†indispensable, and is available both in print, and as a pdf download. Go and make David (slightly) richer.
