Ferguson’s 7 Questions With… Dylan Fitzgerald

Dylan Fitzgerald

On this edition of 7 questions, we have a writer who worked on the Cork Horror Comic and has a story in the upcoming Cork Sci-fi Comic… Dylan Fitzgerald.

What was the first comic work you did that was published?

It was “The Devil’s Chair” in the Cork Horror Comic released in October last year.

What is the biggest thing you have learned since that book?

Not to be so worried about making sure the artist gets exact panel measurements or being overly descriptive about whats happening in the panel – just let them do their job!

What’s your process for writing a comic book?

I rummage through my mental dustbin of ideas and try to find something worth writing. I’ll let it simmer away, coming up with a couple of key scenes. Then I’ll break it down by what’s happening per page and finally I’ll sit down to type it up.

What is the biggest influence on your work?

Music funnily enough. I listen to instrumental stuff (lyrics are too distracting) when I’m writing. If it’s a tense scene I’ll listen to something slow, however if its action packed I’ll go with something quite fast-paced! I’m not taking too much notice of whats being played but it makes me feel insulated from the distractions of the outside world.

What are you working on right now?

Nothing much at the moment as I’m busy with things outside comics but I have a few ideas for some scripts which I’ll start working on come the summer.

What do you out now or coming out next?

I’m in the Cork Horror Comic, which can be found here – (http://www.turncoatpress.com/articles/2014/11/08/the-cork-horror-comic-download) and I have a story “Drought!” in the Cork Sci-Fi comic which is available at the end of April.

What is your favourite Irish comic?

Hound by Paul Bolger and Barry Devlin
