Shared Universe: Comic Art Exhibition

shared universe final

*CORK COMIC ARTISTS SHARE THEIR UNIVERSE IN CAMDEN PALACE*

*Art Exhibition launch Friday September 11th*

*7pm Camden Palace Hotel Arts Centre*

The work of several Cork-based comic and graphic artists will be on display
in the Camden Palace Hotel Arts Centre from this Friday, September 11th.
Organised by independent curator, Paula Larkin, and local comic publishers,
Turncoat Press, the ‘Shared Universe’ exhibition will launch at 7pm and run
until the end of September.

Friday’s launch will include a screening of the cult-classic 1966 original
Batman film at 8pm, followed by music from local DJs Lisa Lemur and Bryan
Seale until 11pm.

The Cork comic scene has experienced an explosion in success and popularity
over the last two years with the launch of a monthly comic-creators meetup
in 2013, from which Turncoat Press and several other comic collaborations
and publications were born.

Turncoat Press has published two very successful anthologies in the last
two years, with another on the way, while the very popular
independently-published 2014 Cork Horror Comic and 2015 Cork Sci-Fi Comic
collections have completely sold out their print run.

According to Paula Larkin, “there is a wealth of incredible skill and
talent in the local comic scene here in Cork, work that isn’t being seen
beyond a certain niche audience. I hope that this exhibition will change
that and open up the world of graphic art to the wider public in Cork.”

The exhibition will feature work from well-known Cork comic artists Alan
Corbett and Eoin Coveney, as well as from several other lesser-known (for
now!), local artists.
