June 23-26, 2016 Kells, Co. Meath

Now in its fourth year, Hay Festival Kells returns with an even bigger and more ambitious programme this summer. Situated in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East, Kells in County Meath is the spiritual home of the Book of Kells®, which was completed there in the ninth century.
Hay Festival Kells is a celebration of literature in all forms, and the picturesque Meath town will welcome some of the best know names in contemporary literature. Joining the British writer Hanif Kureishi will be Patrick McCabe, Kevin Barry, Lisa McInerney, Eamon Gilmore, Roisin Ingle and many others.
A major new element has been introduced to the Hay Festival in Kells this summer, THE IMAGE, which will see an amazing line up of speakers from comics, games and film taking part.
THE IMAGE
Saturday June 25 / Sunday June 26
An inevitable consequence of the association between the Kells and one of the very first graphic novels (The Book of Kells – text by the Four Evangelists, art work by the Columban monks of Iona and Kells) which took a bit longer than expected to get off the ground.
Better late than never, ‘The Image’ curated by comic-book writer Maura McHugh and Irish Times journalist Karlin Lillington, will include talks and workshops to be given by, amongst others, Rhianna Pratchett (Tomb Raider), Michael Carroll (Judge Dredd), Paul Bolger, Maeve Clancy, Allan Cavanagh, Damien Marshall, Myles Dungan, Maura McHugh, Mags Kilcooley and new Irish Children’s Laureate PJ Lynch.
