Advanced Review: Bounty Hunter Sakura

Review by David Ferguson

Created by Kevin Smyth

This is Kevin Smyth’s first comic and I have to say there were some great elements in this book. The story can be divided in two parts: the first being the hero telling us about the world the way it is and the second starting to go into the origin of the character. I think the second half of the book worked better as it moved to from the hero telling us about the world to showing us the hero’s early life. The first half is more talking heads but the second shows more action. The second half gave Kevin Smyth more of a chance to show what he can do from an art standpoint. As you can see from the cover (which I liked), his art style is manga influenced (amongst other things) and I think it shows promise. There were small things like the way the colours gave a nostalgic tone as the hero reminisces too. This issue is a good start and I look forward to seeing more and learning a bit more about Bounty Hunter Sakura.

Bounty Hunter Sakura goes on sale at Dublin Comic Con (August 6th and 7th).
